Category Analyst

 

 

Job Purpose

Responsible for providing insightful data, trending, analysis, and forecasting for various categories in order to support a specific merchandising department.  The role will be responsible for providing meaningful recommendations from various data sources.

 

Responsibilities

1. Analytics

Provide various forms of analytics to provide leadership with insight into category performance.  Develop regular and ad hoc reporting to support program data needs with regards to promotional, assortment, and productivity analysis. Stay on top of market trends and market share numbers for all products. Analyze expense reduction efforts and provide evidence of profit or loss for any changes made to the categories.  Identify and work to improve various inefficacies affecting the department.  Work with leadership to develop solutions to increase time and expense productivity and implement changes accordingly.

 

 

 

2. Partnerships

Develop relationships throughout the company and build a sense of trust through data accuracy.  Maintain partnerships with critical departments and gain influence by providing valuable analysis.  Help translate complicated analytics to various audiences both internally and externally.

 

 

3. Career Development

Gain valuable knowledge from all areas of the company.  Learn about the merchandising industry from more experienced analysts and department leaders.  Audit and improve reporting continuously to meet the needs of departmental customers.  Always strive to create more efficient processes within the department.

 

 

 

4. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Education Required:

Bachelor's Degree

Course of Study:

Business administration, finance, supply chain management, computer science

Education Preferred:

Master's Degree

Course of Study:

Same as above.

Relevant Experience:

0 - 3 yrs minimum

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

Advanced PC skills in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.

Ability to develop and analyze various reports.

Advanced communication and interpersonal skills to effectively convey complex and detailed information to a diverse population.

Ability to influence without authority.

Extremely detail oriented.
