Market Planning Manager



Job Purpose

Responsible for development and maintenance of the competitor database, GIS systems, geography reporting and market planning processes. Serves as the lead within the RESD department for market planning recommendations in regards to remodels, new stores, store conversions, and closures. Manages and guides the market planning team with best in class tools and processes.


Essential Responsibilities


% Of Time

Provides accurate geography and demographic reporting, analysis, and recommendations to the Real Estate leadership team. Identifies market investment opportunities that fit into the overall SEG strategy and yield the highest return. Point of contact across the organization for ad hoc market planning data requests.


Guides market planning analysts’ daily activities with database management and development (MS Access, GIS, etc.) within the department. Audit company and competitor store tables to make sure they are accurate and up-to-date; assist the regions and other corporate departments with selected maps.


Evaluates potential new store sites with sales projections and real estate quality; utilizes gravity modeling and competitor casings from outside consultant for sales forecasts and modeling. Synthesizes new store site recommendations and sister store impacts.


Works closely with analytics groups across the organization and links data sets to GIS systems. Creates thematic maps, layers, and trade areas from customer reward card data; provides consumer-related geospatial insights that lead to sales growth.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

• Strong PC skills and knowledge of GIS software (MapInfo, ESRI, Alteryx, QGIS, FME Desktop or similar).

• Proficient understanding of gravity modeling, regression and/or analog modeling.

• Ability to gather and utilize critical information.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Preferred

• Experience with Visual Basic, Access database

• Basic knowledge of programming language SQL
