Category Manager II (Deli)
Responsible for the creation, development, execution, and financial performance of an assigned product category. This role will work directly with various vendors and suppliers negotiating the best possible position for the company. The position will be a subject matter expert both internally and externally with regards to the category. The planning of all promotional activities and planograms relating to the category will fall into this role. The incumbent will use all of their experience to foster the success of the assigned category in order to meet or exceed company expectations. This role will also work on developing own brands strategies to further the company’s position in the marketplace.
1. Category Plan Execution
Monitor sales performance, profit performance, competitor pricing, and competitor activity daily to dynamically make changes to the category plan in order to meet or exceed key performance indicators. Responsible for the financial performance of the category with regards to sales, profit, and expense reduction. Work with vendors and suppliers to ensure service and inventory levels are met for all stores. Forecast potential inventory issues and address proactively with vendors and suppliers.
2. Category Plan Development
Develop category plan by creating the assortment selection, merchandising, pricing, and promotional strategy. Lead, develop, and execute merchandise assortment reset strategies. Analyze and consider market insights, competitor offerings, and category trends when developing the category strategy. Develop own brands strategy for the assigned category. Ensure all planogram and assortment planning executes the developed category vision across all relevant banners and stores. Provide merchandising support to the stores in ensure all programs and policies are understood and implemented strategically. Strive to make the execution and maintenance of the category plan as simple as possible for stores.
3. Negotiations and Promotions
Buy and source all category products with various suppliers and vendors. Handle all negotiations relating to category products while maintaining positive working relationships with all internal and external parties involved. Plan, develop, and execute all promotional strategies for the assigned category. Analyze promotional effectiveness and tailor strategies to meet financial goals.
4. Career Development
Work with various suppliers, developing relationships for all existing and new products in the category. Create and maintain cross functional partnerships within the store support center to remain strategically aligned with the company vision and goals. Work with other merchandising professionals to develop negotiating skills, market awareness, and commercial acumen. As knowledge of the retail process increases, search for potential optimization opportunities to increase the profitability of the category.

Bachelor's Degree or 4 years additional relevant work experience

Business administration, finance, merchandising, supply chain management or related field.

Strong interpersonal skills with regards to building and maintaining working relationships.
Ability to work with large quantities of data and gain actionable insights.
Strong communication skills with all associate levels.
Experience in a retail organization.

Experience with category development.
Ability to communicate effectively with executive leadership.
Store Support Center
While performing the essential functions of this position, the associate is regularly (67-100%)required to sit, use hands or fingers to handle, hold or feel objects, tools or controls, talk, see, hear and perform repetitive movements with both hands. The employee is occasionally (1-33%)required to stand or walk on carpet, tile or concrete, carry, push, lift or pull up to 10 lbs.
