Job Purpose

The Dir, Merchandising will drive and oversee the development of all merchandising standard operating procedures, including sales floor plan-o-grams, merchandising and display guidelines, seasonal and holiday promotional guidelines and all program SOPs. This leader will collaborate closely with all appropriate Category Managers to develop all new “Go to Market” strategies created around new products and/or merchandise changes. Lead corporate initiatives for the Merchandising department company-wide. Collaborate with the VP, Merchandising, to develop and execute procurement, merchandising and sales programs to guarantee the freshest product for customer satisfaction while driving sales and preserving profitability. 


Essential Responsibilities

Develop and launch merchandising programs geared towards maximizing long-term sales, profitability and growth by providing great quality. Create new companywide standards for product placement by providing the balance between customer opportunity, expectation and supply-chain efficiency. Support multiple markets throughout the footprint based upon the business needs. 


Construct and deliver the message on programs that are rolled-out companywide. Collaborate with the communications team on delivering materials that are on message. Responsible for creating and executing regional training workshops with produce managers around merchandising guidelines and company programs. Visit stores throughout the footprint regularly to ensure merchandising techniques and programs are utilized and are practical, due to the continuous evolution of the business.


Collaborate with VP, on design layouts in new stores and remodels. Collaborate with Renewal Operations and the Reset team on department design and fixture requirements. Provide standards on how stores should be merchandised and set based upon new product placement guidelines. 


Participate in the design, development and launch of all companywide sales, special events, and promotional programs (Grand Openings, Grand Reopenings, Anniversary Sales, Company Events, etc.). Create and implement a promotional calendar, which supports merchandising strategy. Communicate promotional plans to ensure desired service levels and optimum inventory position is achieved. Conduct in depth post-promotional analysis at the item level to determine if promotion was successful.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

• Strong PC skills to include the Microsoft Office Suite.

• Understanding of the merchandising industry to include product knowledge.

• Ability to manage and perform multiple projects simultaneously.

• Excellent understanding of store operations and merchandising methodologies and practices.

• Solid written and verbal communication skills, as well as excellent interpersonal skills to develop and maintain business relationships.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Preferred

• Advanced degree in Business, Marketing or related field.

• Proven experience in retail merchandising.

• Experience in strategic planning and collaboration with senior leadership.
