Compensation Analyst II


Job Purpose

The Compensation Analyst II supports Human Resources strategies to attract, retain and motivate associates by conducting competitive wage analyses to ensure the Southeastern Grocers pay programs are competitive and compliant with regulatory environments. Responsible for job analysis, job documentation and job evaluation of all jobs within the organization, including the building and updating of company pay structures that are market driven and cost efficient for the organization. This position will participate in various compensation projects (e.g. bonus processing, merit processing) simultaneously with varying deadlines.


Essential Responsibilities

Prepares job documentation through job analysis to gain clear understanding of how the role fits within the functional area and across the organization. Collaborates with HR Business Partners and various management levels of functional area as needed to gather all pertinent information regarding essential responsibilities about the role. Consults with management on overtime exemption issues to ensure regulatory compliance and other key findings that impact the evaluation of the role. Reviews external market data and internal comparisons in order to determine the cost of the role to the organization.


Assists with the merit process for the store support center and retail management population by developing a merit matrix to support company's philosophy of pay for performance increase amounts while adhering to the organization's overall merit budget. Determines the cost impact of increases and adjusts the merit matrix as appropriate to ensure increases stay within budget. Prepares jobs aides regarding eligibility, works with HR management to determine workflows for approval of merit increases, and prepares informational roll-up summaries to be used in presentations to executives.


Assists with retail quarterly and annual store support center bonus administration by validating earnings, calculations and payouts, including bonus statement results throughout the various stages of processing. Prepares payout distribution lists for appropriate audiences.


Conducts market review of salary ranges to determine if pay structures remain competitive with the external market. Applies independent judgement and discretion to collect market data on benchmark jobs and uses advanced statistical analysis to develop/update pay structures for the company. Determines cost impact to the company to implement new pay structures. Prepares and presents executive summaries to management.


Prepares ad hoc analyses on internal pay equity issues, external market competitive issues or other issues related to compensation programs. Offers viable solutions and prepares cost estimates to address any of the above issues. Prepares summaries and recommendations for management's review.

Required Education

Course of Study

Bachelor's Degree or 4 Yrs Relevant Experience

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office

• Intermediate to advanced excel skills to build cost models

• Proficiency with Smartsheet or similar applications to track projects

• Demonstrated collaborative business partnership approach

• Demonstrated analytical and methodical skills in order to interpret data, draw conclusions and summarize results

• Demonstrated independent judgment, discretion, organizational and project management skills

• Intermediate written and oral communications skills to prepare summaries

• Intermediate anticipation skills to determine what needs to be done within own projects.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Preferred

• Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) or working toward designation

• Knowledge of Pay Factors

• Knowledge of automated software for merit and bonus processing

• Knowledge of Domo is a plus
